CASE Associate Director Matt Nash Wins 2007 Students' Choice Staff Award
CASE Associate Director Matt Nash received the 2007 Daytime MBA Students'
Choice Staff Award at Fuqua. Selected by a committee of students based
on nominations from the entire Daytime MBA student body, this annual
award recognizes the staff member whom the students feel contributes
the most to the Daytime MBA Program.
Matt joined the CASE team in February 2004, and since that time, he has worked tirelessly to enhance the CASE MBA Program activities and experience. He has successfully launched the CASE Social Sector Scholarship Program, improved the Summer Internship and Loan Assistance Programs, grown Fuqua on Board and Day in Durham, and assisted students with the start of several new community initiatives, including Junior Achievement and the House that Fuqua Built. He has coached students working on consulting projects ranging from growth strategy for TROSA to marketing and operations for a UN aids initiative in Africa. He has integrated social impact themes into the India GATE trip. He has been an advisor, resource, and ally for the Social Impact Club, helping it to achieve MBAA Club of the Year for the last two years. Most notably, he has given incredible, individual attention to countless MBA students, prospective students, and alumni as they seek to make the most of their MBA experience, their careers, and their lives.
In the words of two student nominators:
“Matt is a tremendous asset to have for students seeking jobs in the social sector. We wouldn't know what to do without him. Despite his hectic, schedule, he is always willing and able to help students on an individual basis. His accessibility in offices and leadership in workshops provide great comfort to students with untraditional career aspirations, whether they are candidates for or applicants to the Duke MBA.”
“Matt goes above and beyond to help students and new admits with their
interests in the social sector. I have never met anyone so committed
to others - he is a credit to the school.”
In reflecting upon Matt's recognition, 2006-07 Social Impact Club Co-President
Tim Scheu commented, “I've had the pleasure of working closely with
Matt Nash for each of the past two years. In an environment where students
are always asking for more, I've yet to hear Matt say "no."
He bends over backwards to talk to prospectives, facilitate career activities,
and accommodate any number of responsibilities that fall onto his plate.
He always has his door open and starts every conversation with, "how
are you doing?" - and he does so with a sincerity I've rarely seen
elsewhere. It's truly been a blessing working with Matt, and I look
forward to seeing CASE blossom as he takes on more in the future.”
Co-President Tom Mitchell added, "Matt is a consummate and tireless advocate for students, and his support and attention enriched my MBA experience in many ways. As the CASE advisor to the Social Impact Club, he helped guide and enable the student leaders to aim for new heights and accomplishments. There is a correlation between Matt's arrival at Duke and the SIC being named "Club of the Year" two years in a row. As a mentor, he helped me think through career and extracurricular options and decide what is best for me. In both capacities, he amazed me with the level of time and thought he dedicated to truly personalize his service to each student."
According to CASE Managing Director Beth Anderson, “When Matt first came to Fuqua, I said one of the goals for his position was to continue CASE's reputation for high quality service to MBA students. Little did I know that he would not only take that comment to heart, but that he would take the meaning of service to entirely new stratospheres, even as the competing demands on his time increased. I cannot imagine anyone more dedicated to our students or more deserving of this award. Fuqua and CASE are incredibly lucky to have him!”
Please join CASE in congratulating Matt on this well-deserved recognition.
